FUE harvesting
FUE releases and removes individual follicular units with small circular instruments. Grafts are then prepared and held for placement. Small dot scars can remain: this should not be marketed as scar-free surgery.
Placement and the term DHI
DHI has varied uses: it can mean direct placement after extraction and is also associated with implanter devices. Terminology and protocols vary between practices. A procedure can combine FUE harvesting with implanter-based placement; the label alone does not establish a superior outcome.
What matters in your case
Donor quality, follicle characteristics, handling, direction and medical planning matter. Sapphire describes the material of certain incision tools and is likewise not an outcome guarantee.
Questions worth asking
Ask how grafts will be harvested and placed, who performs each stage, whether shaving is needed, and what risks and aftercare apply. Commercial abbreviations should not be the sole basis for choosing a procedure.
| Stage or term | What it describes | What to confirm |
|---|---|---|
| FUE | Individual follicular unit harvesting | Harvesting method and donor care |
| DHI | A placement term with varied usage | Actual protocol and device, if applicable |
| Medical plan | Individual design and distribution | Suitability, limitations, responsibilities and follow-up |
